Before data collection could begin, several preparatory steps were necessary:

• Obtaining ethics approval
• Preparing the study materials, which are also available for download here: Info for Participants
• Identifying key experts and stakeholders in the field (Fédération Wallonne des Soins Palliatifs).
• Developing a typology to guide the selection of participating teams
• Developing the interview guide
• Developing and implementing a recruitment strategy
• Preparing the Data Management Plan and establishing the necessary technical infrastructure (e.g. setting up and learning how to use AWS buckets for the secure storage of sensitive data)

With these preparations in place, recruitment and data collection can now move forward. The initial goal was to conduct 50 interviews (10 per case study), alongside several ethnographic observations. At this stage, it is not yet clear whether these targets can be met. The coming months will tell!
